Colonialism: Breathing as if Asleep

they found the body alive - of course - breathing as if asleep eyes closed some said it had an athletes form tall and powerfully limbed some say a child others a young woman naked and wet for fucking they stared at the body all wanting it but for different reasons under different stars they chattered but none could decide who had the best reason so eventually they took their saws and knives to the body breathing as if asleep carving and slicing and they stood in the blood and held their dripping portions aloft all proudly saying "See this? This is mine"

Drew Martyn

Drew Martyn lives on the Welsh coast with his family, two rescued ferrets and a cat. When not writing, he'll be watching soccer or listening to rock or folk music. His (mainly supernatural or dark) work has appeared in several print anthologies, as well as in magazines and online. If questioned about favourite writers, he’ll babble on incessantly about Georges Perec, Ray Bradbury, Rabindranath Tagore or George Gissing (the list appears endless so it’s probably wiser not to ask…)
